MADRES AND FRIENDS TRY THEIR LUCK AT BUNCO!!

The Madres started 2017 with a successful Bunco event on Sat night Jan. 14, 2017. We had 36 of us enjoy rolling the dice and some of us won prize money or raffle prizes, but all of us had a fun night.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the spaghetti dinner too. We were able to raise almost $800 to start the year off right. Chair Summer Serrano wants to thank Judy McGuire and Debra Bralla for all they did to help her host this event and, of course, President Susie Butcher  for selling the raffle tickets.

 FUN AND GAME!!

The Madres left on the bus to Lake Elsinore on  Friday night March 28th …..does anyone know what Friday night traffic on the 15 looks like?? Yikes, it took us almost 3 hours just to get to Elsinore.   The bus was made up of Madres and friends, it was exciting to see so many new faces. It was a great opportunity to see how the Madres have fun raising money for youth baseball. We were able to raise around $1,100 for the kids. It was a great trip thanks to the understanding people on the bus.... and the Padres won! We hope to take another Lake Elsinore trip  later on in the season because we love to support our minor league team and they love to support us too! A big thank you to all who joined us on the trip! And thanks to Summer Serrano  for her hard work for another fun event.

MEET AND GREET #1-- June 10, 2017

PADRES RELIEVER CRAIG STAMMEN

By Kris Hardesty

On June 10th 70 Madres and guests joined in on the first of two Meet and Greets scheduled for this year. Our player guest was reliever Craig Stammen.

Craig started his career in North Star Little League, in North Star, Ohio where he was born and still lives in the off season. He attended Versailles High School where he played football, basketball & baseball. He was  interested in what we do in the community as he is very active in supporting youth baseball. Following his stories of his background and his baseball experiences, there was a lengthy Q & A session.

What a successful Madres fundraiser! Meet-and-Greet #1 brought in just about $1,000!!! Thanks to all who supported it! Another Meet and Greet is scheduled for July 15th.

Meet-and-Greet #2, Saturday, July 15

 Padres versus Giants

By Rickie Sevadjian

Forty-three Madres and friends were escorted to the Petco Park auditorium to meet and greet our newest starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet.  There were introductions, an audience rendition of the "Happy Birthday" song for his upcoming birthday, questions-and-answers, autographs, and photos with this very friendly and accommodating young man.  When he left for his pre-game activities, we were told to sit tight, as there was to be a surprise.  Along came two more of our new Padres pitchers, relievers José Torres and José Valdez, for more autographs and photos!

Following that, we were shown to seats in the ballpark next to the Padres dugout to watch warm-ups and batting practice for the Padres and the Giants.  Then there was time to explore the park and have dinner before the game.  The fun continued as we saw a very close game, a 3-3 score going into the bottom of the ninth, and a two-run walk-off homer for the win!  Fireworks and a laser light show followed, a spectacular end to a very exciting day!

Over $600 was raised to support our local youth baseball and softball leagues
